A sudden increase of 27-66% in the prices of petroleum products is unjustified, said Mohammad Ahmed Waheed, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Under the circumstances, the government has increased the prices of petroleum products by a whopping 27 to 66 per cent, which is completely unjustified.
He said that the price of crude oil in the global market is still around 41 41 per barrel while the government currently charges about Rs 45 per liter for petrol and Rs 43 per liter for diesel but increased the price of petrol and diesel to more than Rs 100 per liter. Given which is tantamount to oppression of the people. He said that in the current scenario, the government should have reduced the price of electricity in proportion to the reduction in the prices of petroleum products so that the cost of doing business in the country would be reduced and industrial and commercial activities would be better promoted. The hunting economy would have improved.
But on the contrary, the government has turned the tide on hopes of improvement by increasing petroleum products unjustifiably. Mohammad Ahmed Waheed said the COVID-19 corona virus had already slowed down business activities and that the situation required the government to take steps to reduce the cost of the manufacturing sector and make it easier to do business.
However, raising the price of petrol and diesel will further increase the cost of production activities, make transport more expensive and have adverse effects on agriculture and other sectors, further hurting the economy as a whole. He said that there was no justification for stopping the smuggling of petrol and diesel by unnecessarily increasing their prices. He said that prevention of smuggling was the responsibility of the government machinery but putting a burden on the people to stop smuggling was by no means a good decision.
The ICCI President said that the government has made petroleum products an important source of revenue collection which is not appropriate as the government is currently levying sales tax and petroleum levy at around Rs 47 per liter on petrol and high speed diesel. He stressed that in view of the current difficult situation, the government has decided to reduce taxes on petroleum products and petroleum levies in the light of the current difficult situation. To bring it back to the old level so that the business community can get relief and inflation can be reduced for the people.
He said that most of the electricity in Pakistan is generated from oil sources due to which the price of our electricity is higher in the region and this has multiplied the cost of doing business which is why our exports have potential in the global market. Have failed to progress accordingly. He said that reduction in taxes on petroleum products would reduce the cost of doing business which would boost business activities and improve the economy so the government should pay immediate attention to it.

پیٹرولیم مصنوعات کی قیمتوں یکمشت 27سی66فیصد اضافہ بلا جواز ہے ، محمد ..اسلام آباد چیمبر آف کامرس اینڈ انڈسٹری کے صدر محمد احمد وحید نے کہا کہ کروناوائرس کی تباہ کاریوں کی وجہ سے پہلے ہی عوام اور کاروباری طبقہ شدید مشکلات سے دوچار ہے اور ان مشکل حالات میں حکومت نے پیٹرولیم مصنوعات کی قیمتوں میں یکمشت 27سی66فیصد تک اضافہ کر دیا ہے جو بالکل بلا جواز ہے۔
انہوں نے کہا کہ عالمی مارکیٹ میں اس وقت بھی خام تیل کی قیمت تقریبا 41ڈالر فی بیرل ہے جبکہ حکومت کو اس وقت پیٹرول تقریبا 45روپے فی لیٹر اور ڈیزل 43روپے فی لیٹر پڑتا ہے لیکن پیٹرول اور ڈیزل کی قیمت بڑھا کر 100روپے فی لیٹر سے زائد کر دی گئی ہے جو عوام کے ساتھ ظلم کے مترادف ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا موجودہ حالات میں حکومت کو چاہیے تھا کہ پیٹرولیم مصنوعات کی قیمتوں میں کمی کے تناسب سے بجلی کی قیمت میں بھی کمی کی جاتی تا کہ ملک میں کاروبار کی لاگت کم ہوتی اور صنعتی و تجارتی سرگرمیوں کو بہتر فروغ ملتا جس سے مشکلات کا شکار معیشت بہتری کی طرف گامزن ہوتی۔
لیکن اس کے برعکس حکومت نے پیٹرولیم مصنوعات میں بلا جواز بے تحاشا اضافہ کر کے بہتری کی امیدوں پر پانی پھیر دیا ہے۔ محمد احمد وحید نے کہا کہ کرونا وائرس کی وجہ سے پہلے ہی کاروباری سرگرمیاں مندی کا شکار ہیں اور یہ صورتحال اس بات کا تقاضا کرتی تھی کہ حکومت ایسے اقدامات اٹھائے جس سے پیداواری شعبے کی لاگت میں کمی ہوتی اور کاروبار کرنے میں آسانیاں پیدا ہوتیں۔
تاہم پیٹرول اور ڈیزل مہنگا کرنے سے پیداواری سرگرمیوں کی لاگت مزید بڑے گی، ٹرانسپورٹ مہنگی ہو گی جبکہ زراعت اور دیگر شعبوں پر بھی مضر ُاثرات مرتب ہوں گے جس سے مجموعی طور پر معیشت مزید مشکلات کا شکار ہو گی۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ پیٹرول اور ڈیزل کی سملنگ کو روکنے کا یہ کوئی جواز نہیں بنتا کہ ان کی قیمت میں غیر ضروری اضافہ کر دیا جائے۔ انہوںنے کہا کہ سملنگ کو روکنا حکومتی مشینری کی ذمہ داری بنتی ہے لیکن سملنگ کو روکنے کیلئے عوام پر بوجھ ڈالنا کسی بھی لحاظ سے بہتر فیصلہ نہیں ہے۔
آئی سی سی آئی کے صدر نے کہا کہ حکومت نے پیٹرولیم مصنوعات کو ریونیو اکھٹا کرنے کا ایک اہم ذریعہ بنایا ہوا ہے جو مناسب نہیں ہے کیونکہ حکومت اس وقت سیلز ٹیکس اور پیٹرولیم لیوی کی صورت میں فی لیٹر پیٹرول اور ہائی سپیڈ ڈیزل پر تقریبا 47روپے ٹیکسوں کی مد میں حاصل کر رہی ہے جس سے کاروباری طبقے اور عوام پر غیر ضروری بوجھ پڑتا ہے ۔انہوں نے اس بات پر زور دیا کہ موجودہ مشکل حالات کے پیش نظر حکومت پیٹرولیم مصنوعات پر عائد ٹیکسوں اور پیٹرولیم لیوی میں واضح کمی کر کے ان کو پرانی سطح پر لائے تا کہ کاروباری طبقے کو ریلیف ملے اور عوام کیلئے بھی مہنگائی میں کمی واقع ہو۔
انہوں نے کہا کہ پاکستان میں زیادہ تر بجلی تیل کے ذرائع سے پید ا کی جاتی ہے جس وجہ سے ہماری بجلی کی قیمت خطے میں زیادہ ہے اور اس سے کاروبار کی لاگت میں کئی گنا اضافہ ہوا ہے یہی وجہ ہے کہ ہماری برآمدات عالمی مارکیٹ میں صلاحیت کے مطابق ترقی کرنے میں ناکام رہی ہیں۔ انہوںنے کہا کہ پیٹرولیم مصنوعات پر عائد ٹیکسوں میں کمی کرنے سے کاروبار کی لاگت کم ہو گی جس سے کاروباری سرگرمیوں کو بہتر فروغ ملے گا اور معیشت کا پہیہ بہتر چلے گالہذا حکومت اس کی طرف فوری توجہ دے۔
